Roadtrip around Cyprus

It’s go time! I was so excited for the holiday that will have a great mix of sightseeing, active hikes and relaxing at the beach or pool. Pick up your rental car at the airport and head to your hotel. Most rental car places are located at 5 minutes from the airport but provide a shuttle service, quick and efficient. Don’t forget the drive on the left side of the road, if you’re not used to that I recommend an automatic car.

This hotel did what it had to for the couple of nights I was staying here. It needs a little bit of a refurbishment but the price was great and an excellent location at walking distance of the Paphos strip.

I had gotten quite hungry from all the traveling so a quick late lunch was needed. Lovely service, view and great salad!

My brother and I arrived in separate flights, so it was time to pick him up and after we had dinner here. The food was average but the views are nice for sure.

Start with a good breakfast at the hotel before a big day of activities!

Put on your hiking shoes and go to this gorge for a great walk. It’s an in and out kind of trail and you can park next to the entrance (off road). You can go beyond the gorge to but the hike does get tougher and tougher.

Beautiful wild beach! Easy to reach by car from the gorge with loads of parking space. Was totally alone on this beach which was a lovely feeling.

Had an amazing meal at the restaurant full with locals. As a view you can see the beach you were just relaxing at. The menu is often a set menu of BBQ meat with chips and salad.

Beautiful well preserved ‘tombs’. Not that much to see but what they have is quite spectacular. Make sure to bring a hat and plenty of suncream.

Time to visit an even bigger archeological site just in time before closing. The mosaics are super impressive. The site is big but the sun is getting lower now which makes the walking around better in the sun.

Head back to the hotel to freshen up and then walk to this local restaurant. Try the meze to try a little bit of all local dishes. A great introduction to lots of different foods, and you’ll be sooo full!

Another breakfast then check out and time for a roadtrip. We made our way over to the other side of the island whilst doing some road stops to see beautiful sights.

The famous birthplace of aphrodite! Beautiful beach, make sure to keep walking from where you enter the beach under the highway to get to a quiet spot. This location is quite popular.

Make sure to grab a drink here before you keep going as the road is long. The iced coffees all over Cyprus are a real game changer!

Impressive archeological site with an amphitheater and nice mosaics. It’s quite big so either take a bit more time or just see the essentials.

Absolutely beautiful spot! We shared some dishes to have a tapas style meal. The views are amazing and service so good too.

Such an interesting Unesco World Heritage Site! Never expected to see something like this on an island.

Keep driving to Ayia Napa to find your hotel for the night. We stayed here because we had a wedding to attend, you’ll be surprised to know that there is more to this are than just party.

Time for a relaxing day! I loved this hotel. It’s adults only with an amazing rooftop pool and jacuzzi. The breakfast was great too.

Stay at the hotel for a pool day! Well deserved after all the walking and sightseeing.

Head out in the afternoon to discover the center of ayia napa without the partylife. By day it is honestly quite pretty!

Time for some late lunch after a day of chilling. This place serves good local food for a reasonable price.

After a well deserving rest, it’s time for a big hike. Pack good shoes and lots of water as well as some snack. Swimwear would be good too!

We took a hike from the first church to this one, the landscape is quite flat which didn’t make it to difficult

Beautiful downhill walk to this beach, great way to cool off from all the walking!

You’ll probably be very thirsty and hungry by now so even though this isn’t the best food ever, it will do the trick. Great views though! Tip: the restaurant has some stairs that lead straight to the sea where you can have a dip without getting sand everywhere

After the food you can walk al along the sea towards this church, which makes for a great picture.

The color of the water definitely fits the name of this place. So blue!

Last stretch of walking before the end destination!

Strike a pose with the famous sea caves! Well done you finished a long hike! Time to head back to the hotel and relax, maybe some Ayia Napa nightlife? If you drove to profitis ilias then take the bus or an uber back. We left the car at the destination in the morning so we could drive straight back.

Get up in time for breakfast but maybe not to early if you went out last night.

Another day to tan and relax in the pool at the hotel. Make sure to get some lunch too.

Took a sunset boat trip from pernera to celebrate my friends getting married, it was so fun. Definitely a must when in Cyprus.

Quickly check into the hotel and let’s make our way to the capital, Nicosia

Very interesting place that shows you a divide between old and new

Great street for some shopping and maybe some lunch if you didn’t have any yet

At this checkpoint we met with our tour guide for a tour of the buffer zone of Nicosia. Since the war the island has been split in 2 and inbetween lies a UN regulated buffer zone that is technically no country. Our guide Eleni was no knowledgeable and took us to such interesting places we otherwise wouldn’t haven’t food or would have had less meaning. After the tour, make sure you cross the border to visit this amazing place. As soon as your cross the border you will notice how everything has much more Turkish influences. You do need your passport to cross.

Made our way back to the hotel and had a late dinner near the beach watching football! We were so hungry at this point.

Have a walk along the beach through the streets of Larnaca before a lunch with a view

Last sightseeing spot! On the way to the airport go past the salt lake. Depending on the season you can see flamingos here!

It took us a while to get back to the airport as it was back at Paphos. Make sure you pick the right drop off airport for the car depending on where you’re flying back from! I hope you enjoyed this itinerary and that it helped you plan your trip!
