San Andres Island Colombia

Arrive to San Andres airport from Bogotá. Be aware that you need to pay a fee to travel to the island, you can buy the tourist card at Bogota airport and it cost $124.000 Colombian pesos per person.

We stayed in Posada J y J Forbes 1, we really liked that it was like a little apartment where we could cook everyday breakfasts, also that it had a common pool, jacuzzi and terrace to relax. It was in front of the supermarket and the room was cleaned up everyday. It was 18 minutes walking from the principal beach, that we thought it was near, but after a long day in the beach and with that hot weather it felt like double distance. So I recommend to find something nearest to the beach.

In front of the Spratt Bright beach, there’s this delicious restaurant that makes part of the Decameron hotel. It was perfect to take lunch before going to the beach and it had a very cool vibe and amazing food.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at the beach. You can rent an umbrella with some chairs. After that you can go to Tonino’s Marina to book some tours for the week, I recommend: - the one that goes to Manglares - Rocky Cay - El acuario - Haynes Cay with the Pontón. - and the one that goes around the island with the Chiva (a traditional Colombian transport) Don’t book tours at the beach, as they could scam you, go directly to the Marina for this.

Arrive to the Marina for your first tour. They will take you in a “Pontón” that it’s a very comfy boat.

The first stop is the Manglares, a special environment made by trees in the middle of the sea.

The second stop is a natural pool in the middle of the sea where you can stand up in a low level water, they put music like a party and they even have a drinks bar on a boat.

Then they bring you to take lunch in the Rocky Cay island.

After that, you continue with the tour in Haynes Cay and Acuario, another little island with a walking path in the middle of the sea and a place where you can do snorkeling to watch the colorful fish. In this part I really recommend you to wear sea shoes, if not your feet can get hurt as it happened to us.

At the end they take you to another natural pool and then you go back to the Marina.

Begin the third day by doing the chiva tour of the island.

Visit “Casa museo” where they explain you the history of the island inside a traditional house.

In this stop we thought we were going to see the actual cave of the pirate Morgan but we ended up in a museum, it was actually nice and it has a really cool technology of augmented reality.

This one is the classic San Andres experience, you can’t miss it, it’s not much but it’s kind of fun. There’s a hole in the ground that blows out water each time the waves comes closer, so naturally people stand on it to get wet. It’s for free but they ask you to buy something to eat.

At the end of the tour they take you back to the beach, where there’s this amazing restaurant that combines three restaurants inside of it with three different types of cuisine. We chose the one of “Mahi Mahi” that was Asian food and it was absolutely amazing, don’t miss this place!

Go back to your hotel to take a rest and in the night take a walk by the commercial streets until the beach, you can eat dinner at “El Corral” a Colombian hamburger franchise.

For the last day spend the morning doing some shopping, San Andres is famous for its perfumes, you can find a great variety and with affordable prices. Then you can take lunch at “Sandwich Qbano” that it’s a famous sandwich restaurant in Colombia.

After lunch enjoy your last day in the beach, just relaxing and taking the sun.

For the last night we found this beautiful restaurant near our hotel that had the most romantic vibe.

Take the plane back to Bogota.
