Here’s my review of this hostel: Location This hostel is located in the center of Guadalajara, only a few blocks away from the Centro Historica de Guadalajara, which contains the iconic Catedral de Guadalajara. However, the immediate area where the hostel sits is pretty much what you would expect from a typical downtown area - dirty, very hustle bustle, not exactly the type of place to go for a leisurely stroll, and would recommend keeping your hand on your purse/bag when walking through the more crowded areas. When I asked one of the hostel employees for nearby recommendations, she actually told me that she wouldn’t recommend getting anything to eat in the area because the quality of the food is questionable in terms of sanitization, cleanliness, etc. Staff/Guests All of the staff I interacted with were very kind, attentive, helpful, and polite. However, the guests staying here were kind of all over the spectrum, which is something I’ve noticed in several HI hostels. I was definitely one of the younger guests here, by about 20-30 years (I’m 32 years old). It seemed that the younger guests only used the hostel as a place to sleep whereas the older guests spent all day and night here. Most people kept to themselves which didn’t really create a social atmosphere. I also stayed here on a Sunday (no hostel events run on Sundays) and a Monday (there’s a hike during the day but no events at night). However, I would STRONGLY recommend booking the Tequila tour through the hostel front desk - it’s a very fun and well-organized day trip to the town of Tequila that runs every day of the week. Sleep In terms of sleep, the hostel and the neighborhood are very quiet at night. However, I did not get a very good night sleep here - I booked the female dorm and the ceiling fan in there is very creaky so I would recommend sleeping with earplugs/headphones in. The bunk bed wasn’t very stable, the mattress was very uncomfortable, and the room was really hot. Facilities The hostel is extremely clean - I felt very comfortable walking around the place barefoot (including in the public shared bathrooms). The building is old and gorgeous with high ceilings. The free breakfast isn’t very impressive - you’re better off spending a little money on food at the cafe down the street. Overall I ended up checking out a day early because although the staff were nice, the vibe, lack of activities during the time I was here, neighborhood, and sleeping conditions were not quite to my liking. I’ve been staying and working in hostels since 2013 so I definitely know what to expect when it comes to a hostel and this one just didn’t quite do it for me.
Good
Located in Plaza Guadalajara, with beautiful views of the Cathedral de Guadalajara. Good food, good service!

Good
Cute cafe only 1 block from the hostel I was staying at and a few blocks from the cathedral.
Excellent
Today I went on the Tequila Grand Tour. The shuttle bus picked me up at my hostel at 9am and then picked up a bunch of other guests from surrounding hostels and hotels. We were then taken to a parking lot where we were moved onto a bigger bus before heading to the town of Tequila, which is about 45 minutes away from Guadalajara. If you book this tour, be prepared for a long, jam-packed day - wear a hat & bring water 🚐

When we arrived, we were given some free time to buy a drink, some food, souvenirs, explore the ranch, and take pictures before receiving an official tour 🌵
Excellent
Amazing & informative tour of the ranch and the process of extracting agave and making tequila. One very important thing to note: the tour is indeed entirely in Spanish. Jesus is a sombrero vendor at the ranch and he speaks English as well as Spanish - he offered to give me a private tour in English which was extremely kind but I decided to try it out in Spanish. If you are a solo traveler and you don’t understand Spanish very well, see if Jesus will give you a tour!
Excellent
After the tour, we got to taste 4 different kinds of tequila including blanco, reposado, anejo, and extra anejo 🥃
Excellent
After we got some liquor in our system, they brought out a mariachi band for dancing! This was so much fun 🪗
Excellent
After dancing, they provided us with a buffet lunch - the food was SO GOOD 🍽️

Good
After lunch, we were taken to the town of Tequila, a 20 minute drive from the ranch. We were given about an hour or so to explore the town before the bus took us back to Guadalajara

Got some nachos here after the tour - good vibes, as they were celebrating their 15th year anniversary 💿
