5 days in ESTONIA

We arrived in Tallinn airport from London around 11am. The airport is quite small but very well organized and clean. We used the Tram from the airport to the Old Town, which cost us 1.5€ per ticket. The journey took us roughly 25 minutes.

We decided to stop by in a cosy coffeeshop and we chose RUKIS completely by chance. This was probably our favorite cafe in the whole city. It is extremely comfy, warm and we felt extremely welcome (let’s not talk about the AMAZING pastries!). We paid 20€ for 2 pastries and 2 warm drinks.

Estonia was one of our options to do Erasmus during our University life and since then the pictures we saw of its Christmas Market stuck to our minds. The atmosphere is so festive and cosy, everyone so welcoming and being able to see it covered in snow just made the whole experience even more special. We can now tick this off our bucket list!

We booked this amazing studio through Booking.com and we couldn’t be happier. The apartment is really modern and comfortable. There is buses and trams just outside the building and it is located approx. 10min walking from the main sightseeings in the Old Town.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the largest Orthodox Church in Estonia. We were so impressed with its beauty and difference from the other famous Tallinn’s landmarks. The Church was meant to be destroyed a couple of times (THANK GOD that plan didn’t succeed). In our opinion is one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole city and you can visit it for free.

Tallinn Town Hall is the oldest city hall in North Europe and its first mention was in 1322. Take your time to appreciate the Gothic arches, the amazing wood carvings, tapestries and paintings! You can visit the building for 5€ per person.

This is the oldest church in Tallinn and it was first established by Danes. It is also the only building that survived a massive fire in the upper town of Tallin in the 17th century. You will need to pay 2€ entrance fee and 5€ to go up the Church’s tower, which we couldn’t do due to heavy snow.

This interesting ancient garden was where the Danes first invaded Tallinn and conquered the locals. Rumor has it that it was here where the Danish flag was first created, reason why you will be able to spot multiple sites decorated with the Danish flag.

Patkuli viewing platform is located in the upper town - Toompea Hill - and it is one of the best places to appreciate Tallinn’s Skyline.

Another amazing viewpoint (our favourite!). Here you will have excellent views over the red roofs and towering spires of Old Town.

St Olafs Church is the biggest medieval structure in Tallinn and it is believed it was constructed in the 12th century! Here you can find an observation platform (a must in your visit!) that unfortunately was closed when we were there.

Another beautiful medieval church in the Old Town of Tallinn. St Nicholas Church was built in the 13th century and it is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron of the fishermen and sailors.

This old pharmacy located in Tallinn’s Old Town is one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe and has continuously been functioning since the 15th Century! You can visit a small exhibition for free about the history of this amazing landmark

This breathtaking museum will tell you the story about the crimes against humanity that happened in this building and it definitely helps us to appreciate our freedom. The admission fee is 5€ per ticket.

We had dinner with a Estonian friend at this vegan restaurant and we couldn’t be happier! The atmosphere is so cosy, the staff was extremely friendly and the food was divine! If you’re travelling to Tallinn make sure you pay them a visit!

We started our day by having breakfast and a warm drink at this cosy cafe! Make sure you pay them a visit, you won’t regret it!

The museum includes four towers: Kiek in de Kok, Maiden’s Tower, Tallitorn Tower and the Gate Tower as well as the mysterious bastion passages. The entrance fee is 12€ per person to visit both sites (the towers+passageways).

Maiasmokk is the oldest operational cafe in Estonia and we couldn’t miss it! We stopped by for a warm drink and a sweet treat, and it didn’t disappoint! In this historical cafe, you will find a small exhibition about the history of Marzipan (Estonia’s traditional sweet)!

This amazing medieval alley is one of the most beautiful alleys in the whole city. Here you will find multiple artisans shops, workshops and medieval thombstones. Probably one of the best places in the Old Town to take a beautiful picture.

We have our own tradition of buying a book in every country we visit! We found this unique and special bookshop by chance and we instantly fell in love when looking through the windows! There is a vast collection of English books. Allow yourself to get lost in this unforgettable place!

We loved the Christmas Market so much that we decided to come back for a well deserved warm drink and to buy a few souvenirs! We will deeply miss its magical atmosphere! 🎅🏼

Telliskivi Creative City is located in the form industrial complex of Tallinn which is now home to loads of galleries, small shops, various creative companies, start-ups, and restaurants. Here you can also find the internationally known Photography Museum and enomerous works of street art.

We used this opportunity to take the ferry for a day trip to Helsinki, capital of Finland! 🇫🇮 The ticket cost 23€ per person and it was best offer we could find. We loved Helsinki and if you want to know a bit more about our trip you can check our separate itinerary “1 DAY IN HELSINKI”! ☺️

We decided to use these last hours in Tallinn to relax, drink a warm drink while we took some quality time to be with each other, to read our books and to plan some amazing content for our Instagram/YouTube channel (if you don’t follow us on those platforms, this is your opportunity).

Vapiano is an Italian restaurant chain which we first discovered in London and we instantly became fans! When we knew they had a restaurant in Tallinn, there was no way of missing it.

It was then time to get to the airport and catch our flight to go home to London! We loved this trip and we promised to come back during summertime! 💪🏽
