The La Latina area, just down from Plaza Mayor, is located right in the heart of Madrid only a few minutes from Palacio, Sol and Lavapiés. It has its own metro station and several bus stops with excellent connections to the rest of the city. Cava Baja is flanked by a series of intensely colourful buildings which represent quintessentially Madrileño architecture and is also home to several popular street markets.

This cosy bistro-style establishment is lovely for a black-as-midnight cortado first thing in the morning (usually served alongside a delicious slice of pan con tomato drizzled with flavoursome olive oil and sprinkled with huge sea salt flakes). It gets mighty lively in the evening, with fantastic music and a cracking selection of wines from throughout the land.

Segovia, though, is often considered the prettier, less expensive sister of the two. We walked from the Roman aqueduct on one end of town, pass the city’s wonderful cathedral, and arrived at the castle all the way at the other end of town in about 15 minutes. Everywhere you turn along the way is a feast for the eyes.

Cool, historic spot! I liked that the tab is chalk on the bar. The staff is attentive and the service is fast. The tapas are delicious (albeit overpriced...but worth it for the experience). We saw some super old bottles of booze on display. If you're in Seville, it is worth a visit.

In order to make the most of our time, we opt to stay inside of Granada’s most famous sight — the Alhambra. This upscale hotel has all of the history that you’d expect in a former palace on the grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also happens to be an incredibly romantic place to unwind after a long day of traveling and exploring.

The habitual residence of the kings of Granada, their construction began at the beginning of the 14th century. The Nasrid Palaces are a palatial complex formed by three buildings: - The Mexuar is the oldest hall. It was employed for meetings between the ministers of the king and as a courtroom. - Next, we come to the Palace of Comares, which dates back to the era of Yusuf I. This dwelling was erected around the Patio de los Arrayanes (Courtyard of the Myrtles), and its side exits lead to the Sala de los Embajadores (Hall of Ambassadors) and the Sala de la Barca (Hall of the Boat). The Hall of Ambassadors is located inside the Tower of Comares. - The Palace of the Lions, dating back to the era of Muhammed V, is also a royal residence. It is composed of a central courtyard, the Courtyard of the Lions, and halls along each side, the Hall of the Mocarabes, the Hall of the Kings, the Hall of the Two Sisters, the Hall of the Ajimeces, leading on to the mirador Daraxa viewpoint, and the Hall of the Abencerrajes, along with the Harem.

The Alcazaba plainly served a military function. The entrance to the Alcazaba was at the foot of the Tower of Homage . At the base of the tower is a slight slope. A simple L-shaped walkway keeps the main gate from being seen from the outside.

The Albaicin is a “barrio” (a neighbourhood) of Granada which has been built on a hill opposite the Alhambra. The layout came about when Granada was ruled by the Arabs long before the advent of cars so the streets form a narrow cobblestoned maze interspersed with small squares. The geranium filled balconies, glimpses of the Alhambra at every turn, the silence and the sound of running water in numerous fountains all give the Albayzin a romantic slightly enchanted atmosphere.

The staff is very friendly without being too much on top of you. We had the classic set menu and it's simply gorgeous. As you may expect, the bill is also gorgeous.
