The Crystal Palace of El Retiro is one of the best examples of the so-called iron architecture in Madrid. Originally planned as a gigantic greenhouse to house tropical plants on the occasion of the Flora Exhibition of the Philippine Islands, held in 1887, it is currently one of the venues of the Reina Sofía Museum , which hosts various temporary exhibitions. The architect Ricardo Velázquez Bosco was commissioned to build it in 1887, inspired by the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park (London), the work of Joseph Paxton in 1851. The building, located next to an artificial lake and surrounded by horse chestnut trees, was It is covered with large glass plates, and has a ceramic decoration in small friezes and finials made by Daniel Zuloaga. In 1975, a comprehensive repair was carried out that returned it to its original appearance.

The Puerta de Alcalá is a Neo-classical gate in the Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid, Spain It was a gate of the former Walls of Philip IV. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. The square is bisected by Alcalá Street, although the street does not cross through the monument, and it is the origin of the Alfonso XII, Serrano and Olózaga streets. Its name originates from the old path from Madrid to the nearby town of Alcalá de Henares.

It is the largest station serving commuter trains (Cercanías), regional trains from the south and southeast, intercity trains from Navarre, Cádiz and Huelva (Andalusia) and La Rioja, and the AVE high speed trains from Girona, Tarragona and Barcelona (Catalonia), Huesca and Zaragoza (Aragon), Sevilla, Córdoba, Málaga and Granada (Andalusia), Valencia, Castellón and Alicante (Levante Region).
