😎 The remains uncovered during the 2010s reconstruction, points to the Roman and Byzantine settlement which predated the fortress. The evidence was found in the typical brick-stone combination of construction, especially in the building which the Ottomans later used as a hammam.Remains of the waterworks system were also discovered. Some of the proposed theories are those that Serbian king Stefan Dragutin built it in 1286 or that Hungarians built it soon after they conquered this part of the Braničevo region from the Serbs a bit after this date. None can be confirmed by the historiography, but the discovery of the aforementioned Orthodox chapel might tentatively point to the Serbian origin of the fortress.

When you come to Golubac fortress there is a parking spot- it’s free when you by the ticket for Fortress (just keep it with you and show when you get out) 🧷Each visitor that enters the Golubac Fortress Tourist area is required to buy a ticket that includes entrance to the Complex, Fortress and the parking fee 🧷tickets - Basic offer Green zone includes visit to the Palace and towers 9, 8 and 5. Access is allowed to all categories of visitors. The price is 600RSD (around 5 euro )

Tower 5 served as a defence bastion for the Palace. It was built in the second phase of construction, i.e. during the reign of despot Stefan Lazarevic, and architecturally belongs to the Lower Compound of the Inner Fort. The tower is an enclosed 6-storey structure with two entrances, one from the palace and the other from the rampart walking path. Besides its defence function, the discovered remains of fireplace and toilet suggest that it doubled as living quarters.
