Arrive at Naples airport to begin our Italian adventure. We grabbed a taxi to the airport to take us through the busy streets of Naples directly to our hotel.

Excellent
Check in at the hotel & pop our luggage in the room before heading out for some late night food.
Excellent
For a quick late night bite after the flight, take a walk to Serafino in Centro Storico. The small hole-in-the-wall takeaway serves Sicilian street food. We had two of their fried arancini balls which were nearly the size of our heads! The biggest & tastiest arancini we’ve ever eaten. Grab a cannoli afterwards for a late night sweet treat.

Walk to the Napoli Garbaldi train station and buy tickets for the circumvesuviana train to Pompeii. You need the Naples to Sorrento line that goes via Pompeii. Tickets cost around €2.60 each for a return ticket and the journey is around 30 minutes.

Excellent
Take a tour of Pompeii. You can prebook your entrance & a guided tour prior to your trip, or you can do what we did & turn up on the day. There are many tour operators outside the gates offering guided tours of Pompeii ruins. We highly recommend doing a guided tour so you can fully appreciate the ruins & get a proper educational experience. Tours are around €15 each, but talk to different guides first to shop around.

After you’ve finished exploring Pompeii, head up to the top of Mount Vesuvius to see Naples from the best view point. Take the public EAV bus from either of the following bus stops: Piazza Anfiteatro or Circumvesuviana Pompeii Villa del Misteri (depending on where your exit the ruins). Look for a sign that says ‘Ferrata EAV’. Tickets are purchased on board for €2.70 & the journey takes 50 minutes each way. Once at the top, you can purchase tickets to Mount Vesuvius for €10 each. Then hike at your leisure up to the crater to marvel at the volcanos beauty, stopping along the way for many photo ops of course!

Sorbillos is a must in Naples & it was the restaurant we were most excited for! Head there early as the place is notorious for queues due to high demand. But grab a €1 aperol spritz from the hole in the wall bar next door whilst you wait!

Good
Get the Sita SUD bus from Naples to Agerola (Bomerano). We bought tickets at a local ticket shop near the bus stop (as a local at the stop directed us to do so) but you can also buy them on board. DO NOT expect to stick to a strict time schedule when relying on local transport. Our bus was over an hour late and we can pretty much given up on it turning up altogether when it finally arrived! Ask reception at your hotel for direction to your nearest bus stop to get the Sita SUD bus.

After your two hour bus journey, get off the bus in Bomerano (you will have to ask the bus to stop as it’s likely everyone else on the bus is going to the amalfi coast!). Once in Bomerano, look for signs or ask for directions to the start of the trail for the Path of the Gods (sentiero degli dei). Once on the path, follow the red dots on the rocks to know you’re going in the right direction and continue towards Nocelle (a small town above Positano). This hike is absolutely breathtaking; the views it offers are beyond beautiful & extremely rewarding. It took us about 3 hours (but we stopped to take A LOT of photos!), and is mainly down hill hiking this route. If you have the time, this is an absolute must!

Excellent
At the end of the hike in Nocelle, take the SITA sud bus down to Positano. The bus is a couple euros each and saves you the 1500 step walk down to Positano (which you most likely won’t want to do after your hike!).

Excellent
Take a walk through the bustling streets of Positano, check out the local shops & grab an ice cream or two. Head down to the beach, pull up a chair on the sand, and relax with an Aperol in hand. Although the cocktails are expensive on the beach, it’s worth it for a front row seat of the famous Positano cliff side view.

Excellent
Once you’ve refreshed, take the Sita SUD bus to Sorrento for dinner! Sit on the left hand side for the best views. Once in Sorrento, explore the streets, grab a souvenir & sample a limoncello or three.
Excellent
Head for a fresh seafood dinner in Sorrentos Marina. It offers beautiful views & the freshest fish dishes. You won’t be disappointed. Let’s just hope it’s not at windy as when we visited!

Catch a late train back to Naples to Napoli Garbaldi station from Sorrento.

After breakfast, head to San Carlo Opera House in Naples for a guided tour of the building. The interior & architecture are something to be admired. Buy tickets on the door for the guided tour.
Excellent
After the tour, grab a spot of lunch by sampling a fried pizza slice! Absolutely delicious. Walk around quartieri spagnoli whilst you eat.
Excellent
Walk or get the funicular up to Castel Sant’Elmo. It is quite a way out of the town centre, so be prepared for a long walk unless you want to pay for a taxi. From the Castle, you get an amazing 360 view across Naples with Mount Vesuvius in the background. You can even see the longest street in Naples called Spaccanapoli that literally splits the centre in two.
Excellent
Take a walk down to the seafront from the castle & take a lovely stroll through the picturesque streets of Naples. It is a much longer walk than you’d expect, but it is all down hill which is a bonus. Stop three quarters of the way for an ice cream at Gelateria Mennella to refresh.
Excellent
Walk along the stretch of pathways along the seafront, and sit on the rocks to enjoy the view. Stop at a one of the many bars along the front to put your feet up after your long walk & reward yourself with an ice cold beer or aperol spritz
