Visit the Christmas markets if you are planning a trip to Europe during the holiday season. We had a lot of fun walking through the markets in Budapest. Also, make sure to order a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine while you’re there!

Book a Dinner Cruise Operetta and Folk Show - A really cool dinner experience with an opera and folk show.

This open-top hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus allows you to travel at your own pace for 24, 48, or 72 hours. View the Hungarian Parliament Building, Margaret Bridge, and the Danube River landmarks as you listen to engaging commentary.

Visit the Karaven Street Food Market This is a great place to start if you want to sample all the traditional food Budapest has to offer. You can choose from a variety of street food trucks. Here we tried Goulash (which is a Hungarian stew), and Lángos (a deep-fried flatbread with sheep cheese and sour cream on top). Everything was delicious – it’s a great hangout spot for friends and family!

Right next door is Szimpla Kert which is a huge pub with old mismatched items & a disused Trabant car, with music, food, market & a garden. Great place to grab drinks and hang with friends after dinner!

A must thing to do while visiting Budapest is to visit a thermal bath. During our visit, we had a chance to check out Széchenyi Thermal Bath, which is the largest thermal bath in Europe with 15 indoor baths and 3 outdoor pools.

Have dinner at Gundel, which is only a few minutes walk from the Thermal Bath. They serve the best chicken stew!

Book a Daytime Sightseeing Cruise - great way to see the beautiful city on water.

Grab streetfood on the way back to your Airbnb - Langos is another must have food to try. It is a deep-fried flatbread served with toppings such as sour cream and sheep cheese. It’s probably not the healthiest, but it’s delicious!

Take a walking tour of the Buda Castle District with an English-speaking tour guide. See the major places of interest from Matthias Church to the Royal Palace, and explore hidden gems on the Buda side whilst hearing stories of Hungarian history.

Take a City Walking Tour (a great way to see the city overall).

Take a wine tasting tour! With a local wine expert and journalist, taste 7 Hungarian wines from boutique wineries. Taste white wines such as cserszegi fűszeres, Hungary's best-known grape, furmint, and red wines such as kadarka and Bull's Blood.

Get a chimney cake! If you’re in Budapest, this is a must to try! Chimney cakes are a traditional Hungarian pastry – basically a cone-shaped pastry – with a selection of coatings (cinnamon, vanilla, cacao, walnut), and a choice of filling (Nutella or ice cream). You can find these chimney cake stands all over Budapest if you’re craving something sweet!
