Autumn in Mykonos

We arrived at the airport in the afternoon flight. It’s a good idea to book a car online so that the company representative is there to greet you because most of the car rentals are located outside the airport.

First we wanted to visit the town of Mykonos. It is call “Chora” which means “Old Town” in Greek. We chilled out by the beach on the front of the town and took in some sun enjoying the magnificent views. A little kitty came to say hi 💙🐱

We arrived at our Villa in the early evening. This 5 bedroom luxury Villa is located on a hill overlooking Psarou beach. You can find many luxury Villa rentals on this part of the island which are amazing if you are traveling with a group of friends.

The chef of the Villa prepared a delicious lunch and we all enjoyed it with a glass of wine by the pool. We relaxed, enjoyed the view and spent the whole day here.

Staying in a property that is not on the water but higher up on a hill has many benefits, including stunning views throughout the day. It was so beautiful here that we didn’t want to leave to go anywhere on our first night.

The porch of this restaurant is covered with a beautiful fuchsia Bougamviglias and if you go early before they open, you will have it all to yourself for some special photo snaps!

Today is a Photoshoot day and we’re visiting my favorite photo spots in Mykonos “Chora”. The best time to start to avoid the crowds is 7am, that gives you a good three hours of optimum light abs empty streets. 1st spot: the Windmills of Mykonos I

Little Venice is really worth seeing before the crowds come and before the bars open, that way you can enjoy the marvelous views and architecture and walk by the waves all by yourself without hundreds of people gathered around. Just you, the sea and the seagulls flying above.

Another super instagramable spot that you must visit very early in order to get a clear photo. After 10am this place is swarmed by tourists.

This cafe/bar is located on Little Venice and opens at noon for coffee and snacks and stays open until early morning hours for cocktails and drinks. The views are stunning and there are many photo opp spots inside and outside the premises.

This beautiful boutique is one of the most Instagramable places on the island. It gets very crowded, be sure to visit early in the morning right when they open. Opening times depend on the arrival of Cruiz ships, it can be as early as 8am and as late as 11am.

This restaurant is located on Little Venice, it is one of the most spacious places there and has a very appetizing vegan menus, including vegan Moussaka. It is open from early in the morning till late at night and serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, coffee, juices, smoothies, tea, drinks and cocktails.

The windmills are one of the most famous attractions of the island and they do get very crowded. If you’d like to take a photo without crowds, it’s better to visit before 10am especially when there is a cruise ship visiting. See the difference between 7am and 11am.

If you see one of these collection boxes in any shops, please donate as much as you can. This organization has done wonders for the animals fo Mykonos. I remember visiting years ago and the kitties were in such terrible condition. Now most of them are neutered, fed, healthy and happy… and I literally saw jo stray dogs. We decided to spend the morning shopping and exploring the boutiques of the town of Mykonos. 10am is a good time to head out in order to avoid the crowds.

This place specializes in Koboloi AKA worry beads, which are perfect doe gifts to any of the men in your life.

We walked around the streets of “Chora” and explored for a couple of hours. There’s always something new to discover

This little church is absolutely stunning, and it is open during the day till late at night. You can go in and enjoy the gorgeous architecture and Byzantine details, and light a candle for good luck

This place is super cute and cosy. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner

Everything in this store is created by a Greek designer. You can find beautiful unique dresses, tops and accessories.

Sunsets at Little Venice are stunning! Definitely worth going there early to get a good spot

Gorgeous little church by Little Venice… open day and night and definitely worth a visit.

Traditional Greek coffee a home made Greek vegan “pita”? Yes! This little traditional bakery is one of the few places on the island that has kept its character from back in the day. Running back to 4 generations, Mr.George has kept the traditional and vintage look and techniques throughout the premises, and the food and coffee is incredible!

Back to Chora to shop some presents and also visit the jewlery boutique right across the street which is owned by the same family. Great for one of a kind pieces and presents for back home

A few min away you can visit this beautiful little church that is always extravagantly and joyfully decorated! Great spot for taking photos!

Strolling around the streets of the town never gets redundant. There is always something new to find and always new photo opportunities. I love getting lost here and finding secret corners that no one else has found!

This is one of the most stunning locations on the island! The first church of Mykonos that is part of a greater structure of multiple Byzantine churches that have been destroyed over time. Right by the water, with stunning views and gorgeous unique architecture! Perfect for taking photos.

We had to experience this sunset a second time

One of the most famous restaurants in Mykonos, with a huge Bougamviglia entrance perfect for Instagram photos.

A friend who lives in Mykonos told me about this beach, when I asked him where I could find a secluded beach without organized umbrellas and beach bars. He mentioned it does get pretty crowded during tourist season, but it is definitely more secluded and quiet than the organized beaches of the island. You will enjoyed the waters, stunning views and gorgeous rock formations that surround the beach of Kapari.

We loved the hotel vibe so much that we decided to spend the day in today and order dinner in our suite. Here’s a little tour…

There’s a beautiful bar by the hotel pool that serves great cocktails and a large selection of wines. You can sip your drink by the pool, at the bar or on the rooftop where the views of Ornos beach are beautiful.

We started off the day with breakfast at the hotel. I ordered the vegan avocado sandwich which was delicious 💚

We randomly drove around the hills of Ornos and tried to find little secluded churches. There are a lot of them around, and most of them are in walking distance from the road… they are not open but they are beautiful to visit and take photos of the surroundings

We then drove to the main town again, but this time we parked by the old port and walked towards the tip of the town. There is a famous windmill there called “Boni’s Windmill” with stunning views of the port and town. A beautiful pigeon house is located right next to it, which is characteristic of the pigeon homes of the old aristocrat of the Cycladic islands.

We then took the narrow streets heading down to “Chora” as the sun was going down. It’s a beautiful walk and a different perspective of the town. Definitly worth taking this walk.

It’s worth taking a walk by the water during nightfall. The flickering lights and the views are magical, and during off season it can be really peaceful and relaxing.
