Trip Vienna - Budapest

🇬🇧 🇮🇹 Ready to start our journey: Have you arrived in Vienna and don’t know how to reach the city center? I recommend taking the train, but avoid the “City Airport Train” as it’s aimed at tourists and costs much more. There is a regular train line or the metro that will take you to Vienna’s urban area for just €2.40. We opted for the €12 three-day pass with unlimited access to public transport. I recommend purchasing it directly from the machines at Schwechat Airport, as it will cost you less. 🇮🇹 Siamo pronti per iniziare il nostro viaggio: Siete arrivati a Vienna e non sapete come raggiungere il centro? Vi consiglio il treno, ma non prendete il "City Airport Train" in quanto turistico vi costa molto di più. Esiste una linea ferroviaria o la Metropolitana che al costo di 2,40€ vi porta nell'area urbana di Vienna. Noi abbiamo preferito il biglietto cumulativo di 12€ per tre giorni con mezzi illimitati. Vi consiglio di farlo direttamente nelle macchinette dell'aereoporto Schwechat, perchè vi costa meno.

🇬🇧 For a fun and Instagrammable experience, there’s nothing better than waking up at The Social Hub Hotel. It offers slides, ping pong and pool tables, trampolines, unlimited coffee, a gym, a cinema room, and very cozy rooms. 🏨 🇮🇹 Per vivere un'esperienza divertente e Instagrammabile allo stesso tempo, non c'è cosa migliore di svegliarsi al "The Social Hub Hotel". Offre scivoli, tavoli da Ping Pong, da biliardo, tappeti elastici, caffè illimitati, palestra, sala cinema e camere molto accoglienti.

🇬🇧 For lunch, we decided to grab a quick bite at the “2Bro’s” kiosk right next to the hotel. 🇮🇹 Per pranzo abbiamo deciso di mangiare velocemente al chioschetto "2Bro's" proprio accanto l'Hotel.

🇬🇧 I recommend spending the afternoon at the Hundertwasserhaus (Hundertwasser House), one of Austria’s most iconic attractions. It’s a residential complex of public housing that resembles the works of Gaudí. The buildings look like puzzles, with trees growing inside the houses and their branches extending out of the windows. Everything is colorful and full of imaginative shapes. Just a few minutes’ walk away, you’ll find the Kunst Haus Wien to complete your visit. Nearby, you can also explore a small shopping center, the Hundertwasser Village, where you can pick up some souvenirs.🏘️ 🇮🇹 Vi consiglio di passare il pomeriggio alla "Hundertwasserhaus" (Casa di Hundertwasser) che è una delle principali attrazioni tipiche dell'Austria. E' un complesso residenziale di case popolari, che ricordano l'opera di Gaudi. Gli edifici sembrano puzzle, dove all'interno delle case crescono alberi, i cui rami escono dalle finestre. Tutto è colorato e con forme fantasiose. Distante pochi minuti a piedi trovate "Kunst Haus Wien" per completare la visita. Nelle vicinanze degli edifici si può visitare un piccolo centro commerciale "Hundertwasser Village" dove poter comprare qualche souvenir.

🇬🇧 🇮🇹 After a stroll through the Wien Mitte The Mall shopping center, we decided to head to the Prater, just a five-minute walk from the hotel. It’s one of the most famous open-air amusement parks in Europe, with no entry fee and 250 different attractions suitable for all ages. 🎡🎢🎠🎟️ Don’t forget that the Prater is open every day from 11 AM to 10 PM. 🇮🇹 Dopo una passeggiata al Centro Commerciale "Wien Mitte The Wall" abbiamo deciso di dirigerci al "PRATER" distante cinque minuti a piedi dall'hotel. Un Luna Park all'aperto tra i più famosi di Europa, senza biglietto d' ingresso, con 250 attrazioni diverse, adatte ad ogni fascia di età. Non dimenticate che il Prater è aperto ogni giorno dalle 11 alle 22.

🇬🇧 If you love food and roller coasters, you’ve found the perfect restaurant for dinner. The place is called Roller Coaster Restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you’ll notice the ceiling is covered with colorful tracks, where the food and drinks you order will arrive, just like on a roller coaster. • (A bit pricey, but totally worth it! :P) 🎢 🇮🇹 Se ti piace mangiare e ti piacciono le montagne russe hai trovato il ristorante perfetto per la cena. Il locale si chiama "Roller Coaster Restaurant". Appena entrati noterete che il soffitto è invaso da binari colorati da dove arriveranno le bevande e il cibo che ordinerete, proprio come le montagne russe. • (Un po' caruccio ma ne vale la pena :P)

🇬🇧 Spending €18 for a slice of Sachertorte for breakfast in Vienna? In my opinion, it's worth trying, and I would do it again despite the price 🍰 The original recipe for the world's most famous cake is kept at the Hotel Sacher on "Philharmoniker Str. 4." I recommend going at 8:00 a.m. to avoid the long 30-minute queue. 🇮🇹Spendere 18€ per una fetta di torta Sacher per colazione a Vienna? A mio parere è da provare e lo rifarei nonostante il prezzo. La ricetta originale della torta più famosa al mondo si conserva all'Hotel Sacher in via "Philharmoniker Str. 4." Consiglio di andare alle 8:00 di mattina, per evitarvi la lunga fila di 30 minuti. 🏨

🇬🇧 After breakfast, take a stroll to the Austrian National Library (which, unfortunately, we found closed) and the Sisi Museum. We then headed to the Albertina Museum, where you can admire many works, including those by famous artists like Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, and Picasso. In my opinion, there are other much more interesting places to visit in Vienna if you have enough time and enjoy art. For example, the famous Belvedere Palace is truly worth the ticket price. 🇮🇹 Dopo la Colazione fate un giro alla Biblioteca Nazionale Austriaca (che purtroppo abbiamo trovato chiusa) e il Museo di Sissi. Ci siamo diretti al Museo "Albertina" dove si possono contemplare tra le tante opere esposte, quelle di artisti famosi, come Monet, Renoir, Cézanne e Picasso Penso che a Vienna ci siano altri luoghi molto più interessanti, se avete tempo sufficiente e vi interessa l'arte. Come il famoso "Castello del Belvedere" che vale davvero il prezzo del biglietto.

🇬🇧 The Belvedere is not just a magnificent Baroque palace; it also houses one of Austria’s finest art collections, including 24 major paintings by Gustav Klimt—among them The Kiss (without a doubt, my favorite :P). The Belvedere Palace is located in the Landstraße district and consists of two buildings connected by a French-style garden. 🇮🇹 Il Belvedere non è soltanto un fastoso castello barocco, bensi ospita anche una delle collezioni di opere d'arte più pregevoli dell'Austria - con 24 dipinti principali di Gustav Klimt - tra cui "Il Bacio" (senza dubbio il mio preferito :P) Il castello del Belvedere sorge nel quartiere di Landstraße ed è formato da due palazzi, uniti fra di loro da un giardino in stile francese.

🇬🇧 For lunch, we ate at a typical *Wiener Würstelstand*, a traditional Austrian street food stall that sells hot dogs, sausages, and sides. Traditionally, the sausages are made from pork and beef and are served in a crunchy bun topped with sauces. In German, they are called *Wiener Würstchen* (small Viennese sausages), but Austrians refer to them as *Frankfurter Würstel* (Frankfurt sausages). 🇮🇹 Per pranzo abbiamo mangiato al tipico "Wiener Würstelstand" un tradizionale punto vendita austriaco di street food che vende Hot God, salsiccia e contorni. Tradizionalmente le salsicce sono fatte di carne di maiale e di manzo e vengono racchiuse in un panino croccante arricchito da salse. In tedesco si chiamano Wiener Würstchen (piccole salsicce viennesi), ma gli austriaci le chiamano Frankfurter Würstel (salsiccia di Francoforte).

🇬🇧 While strolling through the streets of the city, we found ourselves in front of the Rathaus—Vienna’s City Hall. Vienna literally has a castle as its city hall, and during this time of year, the square around it is especially enchanting, with an ice-skating rink, Christmas markets, and local food. Since we visited during the summer, we were lucky to find the square fully set up for the Film Festival auf dem Wiener Rathausplatz Aperol Spritz. So, we spent the afternoon enjoying Aperol Spritz, music, performances, and local food. 🇮🇹 Passeggiando per le vie della città ci siamo ritrovati davanti il "Rathaus - Municipio di Vienna". Vienna presenta letteralmente un castello come municipio, in questo periodo è molto suggestiva la piazza, che lo circonda con la pista di pattinaggio, mercatini di Natale e cibi locali. Noi, essendo andati nel periodo estivo, abbiamo avuto la fortuna di trovare la piazza interamente allestita per il " Film Festival auf dem Wiener Rathausplatz Aperol Spritz". Quindi abbiamo passato il pomeriggio tra un aperol e l'altro, insieme a musica, spettacoli e cibo locale.

🇬🇧 Be aware that on the streets, people will try to sell you tickets for orchestral concerts. We managed to get discounted student tickets for €35. Vienna is full of ticket sellers dressed in period costumes, but be careful, as some might be scams. We opted for a discounted student ticket for the Wiener Kaiser Orchestra at the Billrothhaus. We had a lovely evening with ballet and music by composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, and the King of Waltz—Johann Strauss. The performance started at 8:30 PM and ended at 10:00 PM. Since it was just a few minutes’ walk from the Rathaus, we returned to the festival to have dinner and end the evening. I encourage anyone visiting Vienna to dedicate an evening to a classical music concert. It’s no coincidence that Vienna is known as the City of Music 🎶 🎹🎷🎻 🇮🇹 Sappiate che per strada proveranno ad appiopparvi i biglietti per il Concerto D'Orchestra e noi abbaimo preso i biglietti ridotti studenti al prezzo di 35€. Vienna è circondata da tantissimi venditori di biglietti in costume d'epoca. State attenti perchè alcuni possono anche truffare. Noi abbiamo scelto un biglietto al prezzo scontato studente per 'Wiener Kaiser Orchestra" nella sala Billrothaus. Abbiamo passato una bella serata con balletti e musica di compositori come Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven e il re del Valzer-Johann Strauss. Lo spettacolo è iniziato alle 20:30 e finito alle 22:00 e trovandosi a pochi minuti a piedi dal Rathaus, siamo tornati al Festival per cenare e finire la serata. Invito chiunque vada a Vienna per un viaggio, a dedicare una serata ad un concerto di musica classica. Non a caso Vienna è considerata "città della musica"

🇬🇧 For your final morning in Vienna, I recommend heading to the historic city center, where the pedestrian streets Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect to key landmarks, such as the iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) located at Stephansplatz. It’s absolutely a must, and part of my own tradition, to climb to the top of the cathedral tower to enjoy a panoramic view of Vienna. The price for the Watchtower is €5, and to reach it, you’ll need to climb 343 steps leading to the top, the Türmerstube (“the watchman’s office”), for a breathtaking view at 136 meters high.⛪️ 🇮🇹 Per l'ultima mattina a Vienna vi consiglio di dirigervi al Centro Storico, dove i viali pedonali Kärntner Strasse e Graben, collegano a luoghi di interesse, come l'emblematica Stephandom (Cattedrale di Santo Stefano) situata a Stephansplatz. Assolutamente necessario, come da mia tradizione tra l'altro, salire in cima alla torre della cattedrale per osservare dall'alto il panorama di Vienna. Il prezzo per la Torre di Guardia è di 5€ e per raggiungerla bisogna salire i 343 gradini che portano alla cima, la "Türmerstube" ("ufficio") per una vista panoramica a 136 metri di altezza.

🇬🇧 The most famous address in Vienna leads to the world of psychoanalysis: Berggasse 19, Wien, Alsergrund, the address where Sigmund Freud lived for almost 50 years and which is now a museum. It was here that his most important works were born (The Interpretation of Dreams, On Psychoanalysis, The Ego and the Id, and many others). All of Freud’s private rooms are accessible, but the ticket price (€14) is quite steep. 🇮🇹 L'indirizzo più famoso di Vienna conduce nel mondo della psicoanalisi. Berggasse 19, Wien, Alsergrund Indirizzo nel quale Sigmund Freud ha vissuto per quasi 50 anni e oggi la casa è diventata un Museo. Qui nacquero le sue opere più importanti ("L'interpretazione dei sogni", "Sulla psicoanalisi", "L'lo e l'Es" e molte altre). Tutte le stanze private di Freud sono accessibili ma il prezzo del biglietto (14€) è davvero eccessivo.

🇬🇧 For lunch, you absolutely must go to SCHNITZELWIRT 52, a historic and less touristy spot recommended by a local girl. Here, you can enjoy the best and most affordable Viennese schnitzels in all of Vienna (schnitzel for €10). 🇮🇹 Per pranzo dovete andare assolutamente a "SCHNITZELWIRT 52" locale storico poco turistico, consigliato da una ragazza del posto, dove potete mangiare le Cotolette Viennesi più buone e più economiche di tutta Vienna (Schnitzel a 10€)

🇬🇧 It’s time to catch the FlixBus at Vienna Erdberg (a large bus terminal) to head to Budapest. Ticket prices vary; we managed to get one for €20 for the 4:30 PM departure, arriving in Budapest at 7:30 PM. 🇮🇹E' arrivato il momento di andare a prendere il Flixbus a Vienna Erdberg (una grande autostazione), per dirigervi verso Budapest. Il prezzo del biglietto varia, noi siamo riusciti ad acquistare quello di 20€ per la tratta delle 16.30 con arrivo a Budapest alle 19.30.

🇬🇧 We stayed at the "Adrassy Thai Hotel," a Thai-style hotel. The location was super central, but the rooms were very dark.🏨 🇮🇹 Abbiamo soggiornato al "Adrassy Thai Hotel". Hotel stile Thailandese, super centrale come posizione ma molto scure le camere.

🇬🇧 In the evening, we decided to take a walk in the historic center, surrounded by many places with music where you can drink and eat something. We ended up at the "Shadow Bar," which we discovered by chance while strolling through the heart of the city.🏙️ 🍸 🇮🇹 Per la sera abbiamo optato per una passeggiata al centro storico circondato da tantissimi locali con musica, dove poter bere e mangiare qualcosa. Noi siamo stati allo "Shadow Bar scoperto per caso passeggiando in pieno centro.

🇬🇧 For our first morning in Budapest, we had a super quick breakfast at "5 TO GO," a famous international coffee chain. 🇮🇹 Per la prima mattina a Budapest abbiamo fatto una colazione super veloce da "5 TO GO", una famosa catena internazionale di caffè.

🇬🇧 After walking just a few minutes, we headed towards the "St. Stephen's Basilica" (Szent István-Bazilika in Hungarian), a Catholic basilica located in the Pest side of the city. (If you're as lucky as we were, you might witness a beautiful flash mob right in front of the entrance). The cathedral features two towers, and by climbing 364 steps, you reach the upper part of the dome, where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view⛪️ The price to access the tower, including a small museum to see the relics (such as the mummified hand of Saint Stephen), is around €7. 🇮🇹 Percorrendo pochi minuti a piedi, ci siamo diretti verso la "Basilica di Santo Stefano" in ungherese Szent István-Bazilika, è una basilica cattolica situata nella parte Pest della città. (se siete fortunati come noi, potete assistere ad un bellissimo Flash Mob proprio davanti l'ingresso). La cattedrale presenta due torri e percorrendo 364 gradini si arriva alla parte alta della cupola, dove poter godere di un bellissimo panorama. Il prezzo per salire sulla torre compresa di piccolo museo per vedere le reliquie (tra cui la mano mummificata di Santo Stefano) è di circa 7€

🇬🇧 For lunch, I recommend a small family-run trattoria, "Kisharang Family Restaurant," where you can enjoy typical Hungarian food. We had: - **Csülökpörkölt Hazi Nokedlivel** (Hungarian-style pork knuckle stew with dumplings) - **Hagyományos Gulyásleves** (Traditional goulash soup)🍜 🇮🇹 Per pranzo vi consiglio una piccola trattoria familiare "Kisharang Family Restaurant"dove mangiare del cibo tipico ungherese. Noi abbiamo preso Csülökpörkölt Hazi Nokedlivel (spezzatino di stinco di maiale all'ungherese con gnocchetti) Hagyományos Gulyásleves (zuppa goulash)

🇬🇧 A full stomach, as we know, calls for rest. And what better way to relax than taking a ride on the Ferris wheel?! The Ferris Wheel of Budapest costs €10 per person for a ride of about ten minutes. The view is lovely, but in my opinion, the price is a bit steep.🎡 🇮🇹 Pancia piena si sa, vuole riposo. E cosa c'è di meglio che riposarsi facendo un giro nella ruota panoramica?! Ferris Wheel of Budapest ha un costo di 10€ a persona, per un giro di una decina di minuti. La vista è bella ma il prezzo un po' eccessivo a mio avviso.

🇬🇧 Right in Elizabeth Square, next to the Ferris wheel, you'll find many small places where you can enjoy an aperitif. We had **Lángos** (a typical Hungarian fried flatbread), **Pálinka** (Hungarian national liquor), and apple beer.🍻 🇮🇹 Proprio nella piazza di Elizabeth Square, accanto la ruota panoramica, trovate tanti localini dove poter fare un aperitivo. Noi abbiamo preso Langos (focaccia fritta tipica ungherese), Palinka (liquore nazionale ungherese) e birra alla mela. 🍏

🇬🇧 The perfect place to watch the sunset in Budapest? Definitely a cruise on the Danube. Budapest is undoubtedly a city that stands out for its extraordinary nighttime illumination. With a boat tour, you can enjoy the best views of both sides of the city. There is a boat available for €12 with a duration of 1 hour, but it must be booked online in advance, as the spots fill up quickly. In fact, when we arrived, it was fully booked. However, this turned out to be a stroke of luck because we found another boat with available spots for €25 per person. It was a bit more expensive, but definitely better, with a tour duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes and unlimited Prosecco. So, if you really want to make the most of the experience, I highly recommend choosing the *"Sightseeing Cruise Budapest Boat"*. Budapest è senza dubbio una città che attira l'attenzione per la sua straordinaria illuminazione notturna. Con il giro in battello si può godere delle migliori viste delle due zone della città. Esiste un battello al prezzo di 12€ dalla durata di 1 ora, ma bisogna prenotare necessariamente online, infatti appena arrivati i posti erano al completo. In realtà è stata una fortuna, perchè abbiamo trovato un altro battello con posti disponibili al prezzo di 25€ a persona, un pò più caro ma decisamente più bello, con la durata del tour di 1 ora e 30 minuti e Prosecco Illimitato. 🇬🇧 If you want to end your trip in total relaxation, since Budapest is the thermal spa capital of the world, you absolutely must spend an entire day there. The thermal baths are numerous, all different, all beautiful. So which one to choose? Which is the most suitable? We chose the *"Széchenyi Thermal Bath"*, the largest and most famous in Budapest. Located in the center of Városliget Park, it is very popular with tourists and therefore quite crowded, but it’s so spacious that everyone can generally find their own little corner of relaxation. 🧖‍♀️♨️ **HOW TO GET THERE**: We took the [ M1 ]metro line right next to our hotel and arrived at the Széchenyi fürdő stop in 15 minutes. Tickets for Széchenyi Baths include all-day access to the 18 indoor and outdoor pools, thermal baths, and spa facilities, with optional massages and treatments available (massages must be booked at least 24 hours in advance). For those interested, a *Beer Spa* experience is also available for an additional cost. The complex also features a café-bar, a gym, a sun terrace, and a spa shop. For a hassle-free experience, book your tickets in advance to enjoy priority access and possibly some discounts. **Cost**: Full-day access on Saturdays/Sundays costs **10,900 HUF**, or approximately **€26.50**, with a locker included. You can find the complete price list nearby. **DEPARTURE**: Our flight was at 10:00 PM, so we had dinner at the airport and spent some time browsing the shops while waiting for departure. 🛫 🇮🇹 Se volete terminare il vostro viaggio in totale relax, visto che Budapest è la capitale mondiale delle terme, non potete che trascorrerci un'intera giornata. Le terme sono tante, tutte diverse, tutte belle, quindi quale scegliere? Qual è la più adatta? Noi abbiamo scelto le "Terme Széchennyi Gyógyfürdo" che sono le più grandi e le più famose di Budapest. Si trovano al centro del Parco Varosliget, sono frequentatissime dai turisti per cui molto affollate, ma sono così grandi che tutto sommato chiunque riesce a trovare il suo angolo di relax.🧖‍♀️♨️ COME ARRIVARCI: Noi abbiamo preso la metro [ M1 ]proprio accanto l'hotel e siamo arrivati in 15 minuti alla fermata d'arrivo Széchenyi fürdö. I biglietti per i bagni di Széchenyi includono l'accesso per l'intera giornata alle 18 piscine all'aperto e al coperto, ai bagni termali e alle strutture termali, con massaggi e trattamenti opzionali disponibili (i massaggi devono essere prenotati con almeno 24 ore di anticipo). Per chi è interessato è possibile fare una BEER SPA ad un prezzo aggiuntivo. Il complesso ospita anche un bar-caffetteria, una palestra, una terrazza solarium e un negozio della spa. Per un'esperienza senza problemi, prenotate in anticipo i biglietti per godere dell'accesso prioritario e sicuramente di qualche sconto. Costo: giornaliero sabato/domenica 10.900 fiorini ovvero 26,50€ con Locker. Trovate la tabella completa dei prezzi qui accanto.
