Beautiful Bali

We landed in Bali after a 3.5 hour flight from Perth. We then grabbed a taxi from the airport to Ubud which took 1.5 hours.

We stayed in Green field resort, Ubud. It was beautiful, so peaceful and the staff were fantastic. They provide free shuttles into town, which is close by. The free breakfast was really good, the pool area had wonderful views and our room was huge.

After a chilled afternoon and a shower we headed out for dinner. Less than a 10 minute walk was a place called famous pizza. The grounds are beautiful and the food was excellent.

We hired a driver for the three days we are in Ubud. We contacted him from Australia and sent him our planned itinerary. I would highly recommend travelling this way in Bali as it is super cheap, you have no stress of finding where you’re going and you gain a local friend. Our first stop of the day was Tibumana waterfall. There is a short, moderate level hike down to the waterfall. We arrived here really early and had the place to ourselves. It was so beautiful.

The next stop on our day out was Suwat waterfall. There is a short hike, moderate level down to the waterfall. Again, we had the place to ourselves and it was so peaceful.

Our third and final stop of the day was Bangkiang Djaran waterfall. Our guide had never heard of this place. It was a much tougher walk than the other two waterfalls and it wasn’t as impressive, however the views from halfway were really lovely. We didn’t see anyone at this waterfall either.

After returning to our hotel we got a shuttle into town for the afternoon/evening. There are heaps of shops, bars and restaurants as well as temples scattered around. It’s a really beautiful town. We eat dinner at a place called Kafe, it was very good food. There is a huge choice of restaurants though and I’m sure they’re all good.

We hired a driver for the day again. Today we had a longer journey so we started earlier as we wanted to visit before the crowds. Our first stop was Handara gate. When we arrived there was a small queue, we waited about 15 minutes. This stop is great for a few photos but not worth hanging around.

Our next stop was Ulun Danu Beratan temple. This place is absolutely stunning, we stayed here quite a while just admiring it. The temple is on the lake and the views are really beautiful.

Our third stop was leke leke waterfall. This was by far the busiest waterfall we have been to in Bali so far. The walk down was fairly steep, we would say a moderate level hike and it was very slippery but it was worth it. The waterfall is very beautiful, if you can get here when it’s quiet it must be amazing!

Our fourth and final stop of the day was Campuhan Antapan waterfall. This was by far our favourite place in Bali and the most underrated. It was literally a 2 minute walk from the car park which was great after all the hikes we’d done already. The waterfall was stunning, they had a swing set up right in front of the waterfall, the colourful flowers and plants were great for photography and to top it off…. We were the only people there the whole time and we stayed here for three hours.

After arriving back to the hotel, relaxing for a bit and getting a shower we headed back to Famous pizza for dinner.

We hired a driver again for our last day in Ubud and headed out early as we had a long drive and wanted to beat the crowds again. Our first stop was Lempuyang temple. This place is very well set up. You get given a number and wait til you’re called. You then get a photoshoot by a local who you give your phone to and he shouts to change your pose. We were number 10 and only waited for about 15 minutes. Like Handara gate, it’s a cool place to get photos but not somewhere you’d hang around.

Our second stop was Tirta Gangga. The gardens here are impressive. Super beautiful with little stepping stones that guide you around the water. There are huge coy fish in the pond which you are able to feed. We stayed here a little while enjoying the beauty of the place.

Our third stop was Tukad cepung waterfall. I have seen some stunning photos of this place but unfortunately when we went it was so busy that we didn’t really enjoy it. If we visit again we will go here early.

We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool at our beautiful hotel.

We headed into town again and had a walk around. We then stopped at the white orchid and had dinner. Again the food was lovely.

Today we left Ubud and caught a boat to Nusa Lembongan. The drive to the port took just over an hour. The boat took roughly half an hour and was smooth.

When we arrived in Lembongan we walked to our hotel. The walk was easy and straight forward. We stayed at lembongan beach club and resort. It’s a very beautiful hotel right on the beach with a pool and a restaurant and bar. Our room was cosy and we had a private outdoor shower. We spent the day relaxing and swimming in the pool and the sea.

The rugby was on tonight, England vs Australia so we headed for Mickeys sports bar. We had dinner and drinks here while watching the game and the atmosphere and food were great.

Today did not go to plan. We planned to rent a motorbike and explore the island. John tried to ride the motorbike, over revved and went flying, the bike landed on his foot and he couldn’t really walk. So we spent the day relaxing on the beach and we went for a short wander (which wasn’t a great idea for his foot).

As John couldn’t walk we had dinner at our hotel. We sat on the beach which was beautiful. The food was great. We ended up staying out for drinks and had a really great evening. One of our favourite holiday evenings we’ve had.

We had a ferry booked from Lembongan to Penida. We were the only two people booked onto the boat so they arranged a small motorised boat to take us. It was a very short journey and was lovely having a private boat.

We walked from the boat to our accommodation and we went slightly missing. We walked way too far but luckily bumped into a local working at another accommodation who clearly fancied the girl working at our accommodation so he gave us a free ride on his motorbike. Our accommodation is simple but cute. We have a little bungalow just a street off of the beach

We spent the afternoon and evening at maruti beach club. It’s a beautiful place to relax and the menu and food is great.

We hired a driver for the morning and got out before the crowds. We arrived at diamond beach early and there was only us and two other people there. Unfortunately the tide was in so we couldn’t go on to the beach but we didn’t mind as the views from the top were jaw dropping beautiful.

Our next stop was the famous tree house. We arrived here before the crowds and did not need to queue. It was a beautiful tree house with gorgeous views, a short moderate hike down to reach it.

We spent the afternoon at the beach club again. We had lunch and dinner here as the food is beautiful and you get luxury sun loungers for free when you buy food or drinks.

Today it is time to go back to the mainland. We caught the ferry back which only took 30 minutes.

We spent the day in Kuta before getting a late flight home. We walked around the shops, bars and restaurants and spent time down the beach. It was a lovely end to a wonderful trip.
