Montana

After arriving in Spokane airport, we stayed for one night in this motel in Libby. Very spacious and clean rooms. And close to Kootenai Falls!

These Falls are amazing to visit! It also has been a movie location for several movies like ‘The Revenant’ with Leonardo di Caprio. Also the suspension bridge is nice to cross and hike a bit further to get a marvellous view on the falls.

Second day in Montana. We decided to cross the border and visit Canada for a day. Following the road next to the Kootenai river we drove all the way to Radium hot springs.

Due to the wildfires in Canada the views weren’t as clear as they should be but still worth driving there!

We ended the day in Whitefish were we enjoyed a great dinner at Mama Blanca’s. Amazing Mexican food! Whitefish is a charming village to visit!

Today we visited Glacier National Park and started with visiting some beautiful viewpoints entering at West Glacier. First stop: Mc Donalds Creek & falls. The stones in the river are so colourful!

Amazing vistas driving the going to the sun road in Glacier National Park! And look at those beautiful wildflowers! This is called bear grass.

We were lucky to spot a black bear on our first day into the park! Please note to not enter the park without bearspray! You can also rent it in the park.

The hike next to Lake Saint Mary is so beautiful. We spotted more wildlife here like an elk swimming in the lake and a deer at the border of the lake. Look at the color of the water!

Today we drove the way round to East Glacier to go to Medicine Lake. With the boat you cross the lake and then you can choose a trail to hike further. We did the hike to upper Two Medicine Lake and had a fantastic experience!

This hike I would highly recommend! So beautiful. Look at the red flowers, these are called ‘Indian paint brush’. On the road we were surprised to see more elk very close to us! We followed the trail and spotted them again bathing in a forest lake.

On the way back to the boat we made a stop at Twin falls. Very impressive!

Visiting the Bison range was another interesting experience! In the visitor centre we learned a lot about the Indians and the history of Montana.

We enjoyed a great lunch at the Montana Club in Missoula! Especially the Huckleberry Cosmopolitan!

Ending the day with a visit to the local market in Bigfork. Here you can buy local stuff directly from the farmers. We bought some excellent huckleberry jam!

Today we took the old boat ‘Chief two guns’ already operating here since 1933 to visit Many Glacier.

Walking in Many Glacier towards the Grinnell lake was a nice experience! You can see the falls coming from the mountain tops. Great hiking trails here!

After a short climb you will discover these hidden falls.

Driving back to West Glacier via this beautiful road! Look at all these beautiful wildflowers! And we did see a bear again although I was to late to take a picture.

Visiting this dam in Hungry horse was very impressive. We also saw an eagle nest close to this place !

We had such fun going rafting in Glacier National Park. It was such a cool adventure! Afterwards we had dinner at the border of the river.

Today for our last day into Glacier National Park we went kayaking on Lake Mc Donald. The largest lake in Glacier NP. Do you see the icecream and pie? This was the best vanilla icecream we ever had! And don’t forget to try Huckleberry pie in Apgar cafe close to the kayak rental!

Our last day we spend in Kalispell. Making a walk in the local park and watching one of the biggest trucks we ever saw!

In the evening we headed back to Whitefish in the hope to have an huckleberry icecream. Unfortunately they already had run out of it. Sweet Peaks is absolutely an amazing icecream shop in Montana!
